Missions and Structures

  1. Editorial Board

Missions

CMC’s Editorial Board has the following responsibilities:

  • Scientific management of the journal: the Editorial Board takes the key decisions that orient the scientific direction of the journal;
  • The biblio-economic management of the journal: the Editorial Board orientates the journal in terms of choosing the types of publications produced by the journal; defining efficient promotion, communication and indexing strategies;
  • Peer-review: the Editorial Board manages the peer-review process by receiving the pre-evaluated articles, checking them, selecting the peer-reviewers, reading the peer-reviewers’ reports and making a decision based on these reports (acceptance, revision, rejection). The pre-screening stage, carried out by the Editorial Secretariat, remains the responsibility of the Editorial Board, which selects the criteria and validates the process. In case of conflict between authors and reviewers, the decision of the Editorial Board is final;
  • Ethics: The Editorial Board is the guardian of the ethical position of the journal; it ensures that neither board members, reviewers nor authors are in a situation of conflict of interest; it also ensures that the principles of Diamond Open Access are respected by the journal (see Ethical Statement).

The editorial board takes decisions based on consensus. When voting, each member has one vote. The Chief Editor has the role of an arbitrator in the debate of the journal. Therefore, if there is a tie, the Chief Editor gets one more vote to close the debate.

Structure

The Editorial Board is composed of scientists and experts from the three thematic pillars of CMC. It consists of 1 Chief Editor, 2 Vice-Chief Editors and Associate Editors.

The Chief Editor and the two Vice-Chief Editors must represent the three pillars of the journal: 1 for Materials and Processes, 1 for Economics, 1 for Society. The Associate Editors are chosen to reflect as closely as possible the different sub-themes that define the three pillars of CMC.

The Chief Editor, the Vice-Chief Editors and the Associate Editors manage the journal on a day-to-day basis, in interaction with the Editorial Secretariat.

Their term of office is 3 years.

  1. Advisory Board

CMC’s Advisory Board is made up of peers from the three thematic pillars of the CMC. These peers are selected by the Editorial Board. Their number is not fixed and may vary over time.

The Advisory Board acts as a pool of reviewers for the journal, as well as an international contact point, in order to promote it worldwide and attract high quality papers.

  1. Editorial Office

The Editorial Office operates under the control of the Editorial Board.  It carries out the following tasks:

  • Secretarial activities: mailings, organisation and follow-up of meetings, preparation of annual and budget reports, day-to-day management of the journal platform.
  • Scientific pre-screening of incoming articles: scientific pre-screening of articles prior to the peer-review process (checking for conflicts of interest and adherence to the basic rules of scientific ethics, checking for plagiarism and non-use of AI).
  • Monitoring the peer-review process from the arrival of articles at the journal to their publication on the platform; the editorial office also handles requests and follow-ups.
  • Adapting articles to editorial standards and layout, posting articles online and indexing.
